What do you do?

i write prose.

Stock question. Can you tell us a bit about your influences?

My two rottweilers, the sky, the way my mother tells a story, my friends Justin and Bob, the band 'Self-Defense Family,' Marilynne Robinson, Raymond Chandler, Sam Pink, Sammy Winston (rip), Seinfeld, Clarice Lispector, suicide, crows, skateboarding, a lot of religious writers like Thomas Merton and Master Dōgen.

Can you tell us about your most recently published book and whether it does or doesn't differ from the types of things you've written before?

i have never published a book.

What are you currently working on?

Essays on varying subjects, from light to skateboarding to looking at the moon. A book about my shitty dead dad.

Swimmers Club has a focus on the state of independent culture at the moment (independent coffee shops, presses, record labels, etc). How healthy do you think independent culture is right now?

On how independent culture in general can improve or just at Swimmers Club? Move away from paper money and back into a material bargaining system.

What influence, if any, does the city in which you live have on your world?

A lot. I grew up here. I have lived in different cities all over the Bay Area but I don't hate it here, it is my home.

Finally, can you swim?

Yes. But, before I did, I fell in my friend Justin's pool and he had to save my life.
